Yoga Therapy

Yoga is the practice of penetrating deeply into the present momemt and becoming aware of what is. This lofty description highlights the fact that Yoga is much more than just a physical discipline or fashionable form of exercise.  Yoga is primarily a tool for training the mind.  Nonetheless, the practice of yoga and yoga postures surely trains the body as well and therefore has many applications for improving the health of the body and restoring optimal function.

Yoga Therapy is the use of yoga postures and related practices as a modality for addressing a given health issue.   Yoga can be used as therapy, in some capacity, for almost any illness.  It is particularly effective for improving musculoskeletal health and therefore good for helping a lot of issues such as back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, hip and knee pain, chronic muscle tension and many, many more.

Yoga can also be applied as therapy for other types of health issues including those of the digestive system, urinary system, respiratory system, circulatory system, nervous system and reproductive system.  Regular and correct practice of yoga can improve digestion and elimination as well as help with incontinence.  Yoga can also help prevent and treat respiratory illness such as colds and flu and it can help to normalize blood pressure.  Regular yoga practice can help improve fertility in men and women and can be used by pregnant women to support a healthy pregnancy and birth.

Certain yoga postures can help improve the function of our endocrine organs and support the immune system.  Yoga can be effective in helping to normalize body weight and improve sleep.  Yoga can also be effective for reducing the symptoms of menopause.

And because Yoga is first and foremost a means of working with the mind, it can also provide strong support for individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, addiction as well as many other psychological challenges.

At Sadhana Therapies, we will consider you and your health carefully and give you an honest assessment of whether Yoga Therapy can help you!
